Beastie Boys Shows Cancelled

The headline in today’s newscrawl said it all:

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch diagnosed with cancer

As of this instant, neither the All Points West (July 31 show) nor the Austin City Limits (October 2 show) sites say anything about cancelled shows, but the Beastie Boys’ own site talked of refunding the Hollywood Bowl tickets, a show scheduled for September 24th. Outside Lands, who had the Beasties scheduled for August 30th, does have something to say via twitter, and is working to replace that slot:

  • Ranger Dave is diligently working to replace the Beastie Boys. Any suggestions? 56 minutes ago
  • Ranger Dave is thinking about Adam Yauch (MCA) of the Beastie Boys. Unfortunately the Beastie Boys will no longer be performing. 58 minutes ago
  •
Let our thoughts go out to Adam, and have him heal and recuperate quickly, so the Beasties can finish their album and get out on tour. It will be interesting to see who will be filling their spots at the different festivals. (Maybe Outside Lands will bump Modest Mouse to be that night’s headliner, that’s what I’d like to see….) And this makes it all the more relevant why going and seeing multiple festivals in a season is important. One never knows when medical, psychological or visa problems will put a kink in the best laid festival performance schedules. To say nothing of death.

So get out and support your musicians, and see them as many times as you can! It’s what any good fan would do…

Maybe. They could always do what All Points West did last year, of two nights of a headlining band… I just feel bad for APW, since it’s such short notice!
